Paperwork day

Well today was a quiet day. I am still trying to get in the mode of being a Mom (I think this will take time!!). For instance today we went to the park. We were suppose to leave at 10:30, I was running late because we had a slow moving morning. I never thought about bringing anything for Darci, like water (and it is very humid in Guangzhou so you need to drink a lot of water), diapers, or my camera. Thank goodness there are other parents that are more prepared, in some ways I might say over prepared!!! The park was really nice. It had many different types of flowers, it had boats you could rent and take out on the park’s lake, and it had an interesting play area-more for the adults. The adult play area was made up of steel types of equipment that you might see in a gym. There were weight type machines for you arms, ski machines, bike and rowing machines. It was an outdoor workout area!!! Next to it there were ping pong tables where the locals were competing against each other. In the afternoon Darci and I spent 1.5 hours filling out paperwork. Diane has left for a couple of days to go see the Terracotta Warriors, so I was not quite sure how I was going to fill out all the paperwork for the American Consulate with Darci in tow. Darci was amazing, she sat in her stroller for the 1 1/2 hours without any complaints, actually she was rather entertaining. She talked to herself, played with her shoes and was just a great little gal!! This evening many of us went out to eat at a Chinese restaurant. When you entered the restaurant there were live animals (ducks, snakes, fish-see pictures), they were going to be some one’s dinner but not mine-I stayed away from them, I would rather have not seen my meal when it was alive!!! Tomorrow we are off to a pearl and jade factory, more shopping!!!

I hope you had a good meal. (one that did not wink at you!). It’s hard to remember to pack every thing all the time. I”m glad you have other families there to help. Looking forward to the arrival next week.

Jackie, I am still waiting to see the pics from the Chinese-German restaurant! The snakes are cool, but they are not wearing lederhosen! I am missing you so much that I cannot write down everything that I have to say. Therefore the Smith girls must hurry home!

Sounds like you’re having fun! Hopefully you won’t be all tired out from all of the shopping you guys are doing hahaha. Thanks for posting pictures of both the head of a fish, who’s eyes keep following me, and a bunch of snakes…. I nearly passed out. Keep up with the updates!

Well, Jackie, your adventure continues!!! That was a great shot of the fish market……those fish heads remind me of a dish your Grandma used to put together, ceann cropich (sp??). Roughly translated, I think it means “stuffed head.” (Noreen, correct my Gaelic spelling on this!). You can imagine how excited we were when this was on the menu…….second only to tripe in white sauce!!!!
It was a good sign to see that Darci amused herself for the lengthy time involved in paper work. I think she’s doing very well considering that she was with one person for almost all of her little life, and now everything is new. I know you’ll guide her well, and she’ll be on the receiving end of lots of love.
You’ll be home by this time next week, and I’m sure very ready to resume a (new) normal routine.
    Love,
    Aunty

Grandma, please tell me you are kidding about the dish her grandma made… I would have freaked out at the sight of it!

Thanks for the snake pic- I have to say I would much rather see Darci! It sounds like everyone has adjusted well and you are really enjoying your trip! I am jealous about the jade shopping. Buy yourself a beautiful souvenir, who knows when you will go back?
    Enjoy!

WOW! We ate sushi last night but everything looked less…..less like itself. No thanks on the ducks, snakes fish gig. I can’t wait to see you all. Everything at home is fine. We have had rain so your yard looks good! Will check inside in the next day or so. You guys look good and this blog has been a great way to feel connected to you all. Keep having fun. Sounds like things are good. Love you. Kristen

There is nothing better than the peaceful feeling you have while holding your child as they fall a sleep after a chaotic day. Take care and tell Diane we are thinking of her as she travels alone. (You and Darci have a fun time being together on your own,)
